Separate protection from retaliation
The official listing distinguishes head/body guards, slipping punches and counters. Blocking the intended target and choosing when to reply are separate decisions. A defensive success does not mean every follow-up attack will be safe.

Train one defensive read
Against AI, observe whether the incoming attack targets the head or body. Practice the matching guard using the current controls. Keep the return attack out of the drill until you can identify which defensive choice failed and why.
Add one reply
After a clear miss or defended attack, try one short response and then reset. Watch range and stamina. If you repeatedly get hit during the reply, compare timing and position rather than extending the combination.
Keep a simple round note
Write three items: the attack you tried to read, the defense you selected and what happened afterward. That record helps distinguish a wrong guard from late input or poor distance. We have not measured invulnerability frames, counter multipliers or a guaranteed knockout sequence.
