Crossplay starts with the Activision account

Activision says online Modern Warfare 4 play requires an Activision account. It stores online progression and supports playing with friends across platforms. A platform login and an Activision account serve different purposes: check both when progress looks wrong after changing devices.

Use the full ID to find a friend

Open Social and use the friend’s complete Activision ID, including its numeric suffix. The support guide distinguishes Activision friends from friends on your current console. A console display name alone may therefore be the wrong identifier for the person you want.

Ask your friend to copy the ID from their own account summary rather than reconstructing it from memory. After the invitation, confirm which person received it before arranging the session. A sent request is only the first part of joining a group.

Check these details before changing a link

Write the mismatch down before taking action. For example, “same platform account, different Activision ID” is more useful than “everything is gone.” Keep passwords and verification codes out of screenshots you share.

CheckpointWhat to compare
Platform accountThe account signed in on this device.
Activision identityThe complete ID shown in the game or account summary.
Expected progressA specific rank, unlock or other recognizable item.
Previous deviceThe ID used when that progress was last visible.

Unlinking is not a progress-transfer method

The official guide warns that linking a platform account to a different Activision account does not carry progression across. It also says MW4 Beta bonuses require the account that earned them. If that identity is inaccessible, use official account support instead of creating several new accounts to try to recover the same unlock.

Separate account, invitation and access problems

Use the table as a record of what you can actually see. It is a troubleshooting worksheet, not a diagnosis of your account or the live service.

If contacting support, include the platform, approximate time, exact message and the point where the flow stops. Keep the distinction between “request sent,” “friend accepted” and “session joined.” Each gives support a different starting point.

Keep access to the registered email

Activision uses email verification for account changes such as linking and changing account details. Confirm you can access the registered mailbox before starting that flow. This guide does not perform account changes, authenticate a player or establish whether purchases transfer between storefronts.
