Spend the opening or build the chain
Under the 0.7 overhaul, using the available Alterattack ends that cycle. Passing the base opportunity builds toward Super; passing base and Super builds toward Ultra. Successful hits affect the basic bonus, while chained attacks have a base bonus even without those hits. At the highest unlocked chain level, passing another opportunity lets you wait for a better opening.

Pair an enabler with a payoff
Instead of calling one pair the best, choose a weapon whose normal sequence you can complete safely and examine the other weapon’s Alterattack. Then reverse the direction. A pair that feels comfortable from A to B may be awkward from B to A. Range, commitment time and the enemy’s recovery window all belong in the comparison.
| Test | Record |
|---|---|
| A → B | Time needed to recognize and use the opportunity |
| B → A | Whether the return direction leaves a safe exit |
| Early switch | Reliable damage before the enemy moves |
| Longer chain | Additional exposure while reaching Super or Ultra |
Check the exception before diagnosing a broken chain
Damage ordinarily interrupts chain progression, but the 0.10 notes introduce Alterattack Mastery as an exception. Read the Gift you actually have equipped before concluding that the HUD is wrong. The October 15 announcement concerns an optional open-beta branch, including further combat changes; it is not evidence that Windblown has launched 1.0.

A short practice routine
- Keep the same two weapons and note whether you are on the default or public_beta branch.
- For a few encounters, spend the first comfortable opportunity and observe the exit.
- Repeat while aiming for one later chain level. Keep enemy type and equipment as similar as possible.
- Compare survival, missed opportunities and recovery, not just a single large damage number.
- Record Gifts and weapon affixes alongside the pair so the result can be repeated.
Separate your unlock problem from your timing problem
If the intended weapon is still locked, use the Memory and Memonite guide first. If the weapon is available but the sequence breaks, change one timing decision before rebuilding the whole loadout.
