How existing saves move to 1.0
Keen’s October 14 changelog says 1.0 detects saves from version 0.8 or earlier, backs them up, then converts them automatically. If progress appears missing, check the selection menus before replacing files.

Check the menu and the new Windows folder
- In character selection, check both save-location tabs: local and Steam Cloud. Repeat this in world selection if a world is missing.
- For Windows local saves, look in C:\Users\WINDOWSUSER\Saved Games\keen games\Enshrouded\default. Replace WINDOWSUSER with your Windows account folder name.
- Treat that path as the local-save location. The changelog does not identify it as the Steam Cloud folder or a dedicated-server save directory.

Match the symptom to the documented behavior
| Symptom | Documented explanation | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Character loads with unassigned skills | The first 1.0 load resets existing skill trees. | Spend the available points again. |
| A warning says character or world data cannot be overwritten | Keen identifies read-only Windows save data as one possible cause. | Check the affected files’ write permissions; a warning alone does not diagnose corruption. |
| Character remains absent | Hotfix 1.0.0.2 skips corrupted characters during migration. | Read the limitation below before trying a rollback. |
| Character is present but a dedicated-server world is missing | Keen’s server FAQ stores characters on clients and world progression on the server. | Ask the server administrator to check the server-side world data, separately from your character files. |

The corrupted-character fix was still incomplete
Hotfix 1.0.0.2, released October 16 as build 1269579, prevents a migration crash by leaving corrupted characters unmigrated. Keen said another fix would repair and migrate them. The note gives no delivery date; it does not say those characters were restored.
The official news index checked on October 19 contained no later repair announcement. That is a documentation check, not a diagnosis of your save. For an unresolved case, use Keen’s support form and respond to its request for diagnostic files.

Before attempting a manual rollback
Keen’s Save Game Management article recommends making copies before editing save files. Its April 23 instructions and numbered-file screenshots predate 1.0’s new format. They do not verify a manual 1.0 recovery procedure.
Keep an untouched copy and tell support whether the missing item is a character or world, which save-location tabs you checked, and your installed build. These details distinguish the documented cases without guessing a repair.
